Sustainability in practice at GREIF Mietwäsche
Our planet takes priority: At GREIF, sustainability is not an empty word – it’s actively implemented across all levels. As a result, society and the environment benefit from our rental model. Through climate-neutral rental laundry, we give our customers the opportunity to directly offset their CO₂ emissions. Our participation in sustainability initiatives and climate protection measures such as e-billing and e-mobility round off our daily contribution to making the planet greener.
Our business model: Rent, don’t buy
Environmental protection that pays: Our rental laundry system is beneficial for all sides. Our customers avoid tying up capital in the purchase of goods and don’t have to take on storage. Thanks to large capacities of high-quality laundry available for rent, our reliable service is able to flexibly supply precisely the products that are currently needed. And the washing, shortage, repair and replacement services protect the customer’s budget even further. The benefit for the environment: Irreparable items are used meaningfully through recycling or upcycling.
Quality and responsibility: When it comes to the laundry that we rent, we go for the very best quality. Our range is therefore based on goods produced in Europe in line with reliable standards – because only textiles that meet above-average quality standards have a satisfactorily long service life and meet our requirements. Discarded items are sustainably fed back into new cycles. In line with our convictions, we sustain long-term relationships with our suppliers, employees and customers throughout.

We are a MaxTex member
Future-proof together: MaxTex is a network for ensuring sustainable action throughout the textile supply chain. We are members, as are many of our suppliers. Through our membership, we aim to make progress with issues that affect us all – including greater transparency in the supply chain and sustainably fair working conditions. Our strong MaxTex network also gives us new inspiration regarding climate protection.
Supporter of the UN Global Compact
Prioritising people and the environment: Since 2016, we have been a supporter of the UN Global Compact. As the world’s largest initiative for sustainable and responsible corporate management, it guides us in our work. We have analysed and optimised the entire company and our value creation chain based on the principles of the initiative. We aim to continue strategically aligning all our business activities with universal principles such as human rights, fairness, environmental protection and anti-corruption via an active approach.
Climate protection at GREIF
We don’t leave climate protection to chance: We actively protect the climate through our ‘rent, don’t buy’ business model, which involves taking a responsible approach to our textiles and saving our customers from making expensive and unsustainable purchases. What’s more, we are continuously improving our CO₂ balance – by implementing measures to conserve resources and using regenerative technologies. All this is documented transparently in the footprint report and guided by the Science Based Targets initiative.
Our climate protection projects
Climate protection for our customers: Book your rental linen in the climate-neutral variant, support one of our climate protection projects with your compensation contribution. With both our moorland project in Germany and the drinking water project in Uganda, we are actively reducing the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and thus counteracting climate change. For your commitment you will receive our climate protection certificate and can thus prove your commitment to the environment.
Commitment to sustainability
All sustainability areas covered: With the seal for ‘Commitment to sustainability’ from the German Institute for Sustainability and Economy, we are able to prove that we have all sustainability areas covered.
In each of the three assessed areas – ecological, social and economic competence – we were rated ‘good’.
